Tirana needs more dedicated pedestrian zones!
Yes, we are convinced this is feasible!
Skanderbeg Square and its immediate surroundings are car-free since the redesign has been implemented by 51N4E.
The car-free zone can be expanded southwards to the Lana river, which means double the surface! Additionally, the logic conclusion would be closing Rruga Myslym Shyri for motorized traffic and taking the ‘Pedonalja’ all the way down to the Ring (Rruga Muhamet Gjollesha)
Honestly, the actual drive-through between Plaza and Toptani Center cannot be a permanent solution. The access to the parking garages of the mall and the new pentagon like building behind the municipality can be organized from Rruga George W. Bush.
Further, this gives a whole new perspective to the extension of the ‘Pedonale’ – actually limited to the Shetitorja Murat Toptani – along Parku Rinia down the Rruga Myslym Shyri, which is out of discussion the nicest shopping avenues in Tirana!
Some other side measures have to be taken regarding general traffic regime, like:
- re-routing the inner ring road along the Lana river
- syncing traffic lights along the ring road, including all intersections (green wave)
- disentangle the bus lines (yes I’m ready to change busses in the center and even walk two minutes to my next bus station).
